New Events

The state of Iowa has just added the Boys Shuttles to their list of events for track meets.  There has been discussion to eliminate that event from our competitions.  We at Bridgeport have always been in favor of keeping the Shuttles and will work to make sure it stays.  Are there other events that you would like to see added to T&F in our state?  Or maybe some that need to be dropped?  Tell us what you think.

Endzone Work

If you haven’t been down to the field lately, you may want to go take a look.  The far endzone has undergone some major changes over the past few weeks.  With the help of Steve Sellas and the Parents Association the endzone has been filled and paved.  Rob Lang and his crews did a little excavation and then filled the area with stone and ran drainage lines.  Rob Yost then brought in his crew and did the paving. 

2008 Meet Registration Opens

Yesterday at 9:00am marked the opening of meet registrations for the 2008 T&F season.  By 2:30 yesterday afternoon we had our first team register.  Scott H.S. from Madison, WV will be coming to the Harry Green Statewide Invitational for the first time this year.  As most of you are aware the Harry Green Statewide Invitational

WV State Meet Statistics

Over the summer I took a look at the results of the last three state meets.  I chose the last three years because that was when the WVSSAC reclassified and we became AAA again.  I compared the points scored by each team with the school enrollment when the reclassification took place.  The results are interesting.  Our kids are doing a great job.  As one of the smaller AAA schools, we still consistently score well.  To see the results click here ( http://www.bridgeporttrack.com/WVSMP/StateMeetMain.htm )

All-State Athletes

To date the Bridgeport Boys Track & Field Squad has delivered 73 All-State performances from 126 athletes.  The first All-State performance for a Bridgeport HS athlete came in 1923.  

Scheduling for 2008

I am in the process of putting together the schedule for the 2008 Track & Field Season.  Tomorrow we have a meeting with the City of Bridgeport, BMS and Johnson Elementary to discuss arrangements and dates for the various activities that invariably hit in the spring.  I will keep everyone posted on what we decide.  Look at the comments for this posting to see what transpires.

Friday Night Alumni

This past Friday night was the home opener for the BHS football team.  Even after resigning from 17 years of coaching Freshmen football at BHS, I still enjoy attending the Varsity football games.  I especially enjoy watching how our Track & Field kids do on the football team.
