If you haven’t been down to the field lately, you may want to go take a look. The far endzone has undergone some major changes over the past few weeks. With the help of Steve Sellas and the Parents Association the endzone has been filled and paved. Rob Lang and his crews did a little excavation and then filled the area with stone and ran drainage lines. Rob Yost then brought in his crew and did the paving. The results are dramatic and will be very beneficial during practice and meets. The other major change (so far) was the relocation of the Mary Reppert memorial. I’m sure many people are unaware of who Mrs. Reppert was. Mary was a former science teacher at Bridgeport High School who was devoted to the school and in particular the school’s athletic teams. She was a remarkable person who looked after the athletes like they were her own children. Previously located on the inside of the track down in the bowl, the memorial has been moved to the outside of the track at the top of the curve. Neils Fence was contracted to move the fencing to provide access the area from the track. In the next few days we will be completing the landscaping of the area with a new bench and tree. In its new location, the memorial is much more attractive and better honors a lady who worked tirelessly to support Bridgeport High School athletics.
Thanks to everyone associated with this portion of the Track to the Future project: Steve Sellas, Bridgeport Track & Field Parents Association, Bridgeport Track to the Future, Rob Lang, Rob Yost, Woody Thrasher, Mark Defazio, Walter Barth, and anyone I may have missed. We are nearing the end of the Track to the Future project. To date we have raised, donated and spent well over $500,000 for the track, field event areas, concession stand, fencing, paving, recognition wall, etc. Combined with the work done by the field turf committee, the total renovations to Wayne Jamison Field are over $1.25 million dollars.
I remember when they said it couldn’t be done…….

Today is the ground breaking for another Bridgeport Track & Field related project. Ben Fredrick will begin the work on the new bullpen pavillion for his Eagle Scout project. As far as we know this will be the first permanent T&F bullpen pavillion in the state of WV, maybe the country. The pavillion is to be located between the finish line area and the finish line building (another first of its kind in the state). Replacing the old tarp system, it will provide protection from the elements for athletes checking in for their events. Thanks to Ben, his family and all of the contributors who have made this project possible.

This weekend Ben F. will be finishing up construction of the new bullpen. If anyone has time to go down and help I am sure he would appreciate it. I hope to make it down myself to lend a hand. So far the construction is going great. It will be a great addition to our facility. At the very least stop by and take a look and if you see Ben or his family let them know how much we appreciate their efforts.
